Three- and four-particle transfer strengths to states in /sup 15/N

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)

The 9.155, 9.83, and 10.69 MeV states in /sup 15/N are found to have large cross sections in both three- and four-particle transfer reactions from a study of the /sup 12/C(/sup 7/Li,..cap alpha gamma..), /sup 12/C(/sup 6/Li,/sup 3/He..gamma..), and /sup 11/B(/sup 7/Li,t..gamma..) reactions at E/sub Li/ = 28, 34, and 28 MeV, respectively. These results are in disagreement with simple cluster model arguments. Doppler shift attenuation measurements of the lifetimes of the /sup 15/N states show that neither the weak-coupling shell model nor the cluster model accurately predicts the electromagnetic decay strengths in /sup 15/N.
