A model system (L = PPh/sub 3/) was used to study the effect of the promotor SnCl/sub 2/ in raising the selectivity of Pd and Pt catalysts in processes of the carboxylation of olefins. The reaction was conducted in an atmosphere of pure carbon monoxide and in its mixture with hydrogen. The effect of SnCl/sub 2/ was also studied in systems containing an additional amount of triphenylphosphine, which prevents the precipitation of Pd black and retards the isomerization. The changes in the rate and selectivity of the process was examined in the case of catalytic systems PdC12(PPH/sub 3/)/sub 2//nSnCl/sub 2/. Results are presented.
