Influence of nature of support on composition and structure of supported molybdenum heteropoly compounds

IR spectroscopy has been used in an investigation of the phase composition of catalysts prepared from SiO/sub 2/, TiO/sub 2/, and ..gamma..-Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ by the deposition of molybdenum 6-series heteropoly compounds (HPCs) with central atoms of copper, cobalt, and iron, and also 12-series HPCs - namely, Si-Mo and P-Mo heteropoly acids and their copper and cobalt salts. It has been shown that the 6-series HPCs break down when they are deposited on the support; on the SiO/sub 2/ surface, they form mixed Si-Mo-M HPCs, and on Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ they form Al-Mo HPCs of the 6-series. Composition of catalysts obtained by the deposition of 12-series HPCs on supports depends on the acid-base properties of the support and on the pH interval within which the HPC is stable.
