Linear symmetric quark theories of baryon magnetic moments

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. D; (United States)

A phenomenological and theoretical analysis of the baryon magnetic moments leads to a definition of the class of linear symmetric quark theories for the baryon moments. In this class of theories there are members that can reproduce the experimental results fairly well. However, it seems that despite SU(3) breaking the average of the light-quark magnetic moments (1/3)(..mu../sub u/+..mu../sub d/+..mu../sub s/) is unexpectedly small. A possible explanation is an anomalous moment for the quarks.
