Linear symmetric quark theories of baryon magnetic moments

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5231036

A phenomenological and theoretical analysis of the baryon magnetic moments leads to a definition of the class of linear symmetric quark theories for the baryon moments. Such theories can reproduce the experimental results fairly well. However, it seems that despite SU(3) breaking the average of the light quarks magnetic moments 1/3 (..mu../sub ..mu../+..mu../sub d/ +..mu../sub s/) is unexpectedly small. A possible explanation is an anomalous magnetic moment for the quarks.
