An improved method is described for recovering oil from a subterranean, hydrocarbon-bearing formation which is penetrated by at least one injection well and at least one production well wherein a liquid non-aqueous displacement fluid is injected into the formation through the injection well and fluids are produced from the production well, the improvement comprising dissolving in the non-aqueous displacement fluid an effective amount of a surfactant and a cosolvent prior to injecting the fluid into the formation. The cosolvent is adapted to increase the solubility of the surfactant in the displacement fluid, and wherein the displacement fluid is selected from the group comprising carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and mixtures of any combination selected from the group comprising carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and light hydrocarbons.
