Petroleum exploration: A quantitative introduction

Book ·
OSTI ID:5865215
This book discusses the search for hydrocarbons with an emphasis on seismic exploration. It is intended as a self-study guide for those with limited background in geophysics, the book develops the seismic method quantitatively with only elementary mathematics. Section I provides general background information, an introductory chapter on the beginning of the oil industry, and chapters on petroleum geology, geophysical methods, and drilling and logging. Section 2 covers seismic exploration, including two chapters on the seismic method and velocity measurements and two on wave propagation theory and the convolutional model. Three chapters cover the three phases of seismic exploration: acquisition, processing, and interpretation.
