Review of recent anti pp results at the CERN ISR

Conference · · AIP Conf. Proc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5859818
Three experiments recently performed using anti pp collisions at ..sqrt..s = 53 GeV, at the CERN ISR are described. The first experiment presented is the work of the UA5 group, using a large streamer chamber with no magnetic field. They obtained 5000 anti pp events at a luminosity of 10/sup 25/ cm/sup -2/sec/sup -1/, and also, as a calibration, took 5000 pp events at the same energy, using the same minimum bias trigger. The second experiment is R807, which utilizes an axial field solenoid (AFS) magnet in conjunction with drift chambers to measure momenta and multiplicities in a region of rapidity similar to UA-5. The group collected approx. 25,000 anti pp events, at ..sqrt..s = 53 GeV, during the second test run which had a luminosity of approx. 1.5 x 10/sup 26/ cm/sup -2/sec/sup -1/, also using an unbiased trigger. The third and last experiment discussed is the Louvain-Northwestern experiment, R211, which measures the low- /t/ (four momentum-transfer squared) elastic scattering, using scintillation counter hodoscopes.
