Observation of neutron and proton deep hole excitations in (/sup 6/Li, /sup 7/Li) and (/sup 6/Li, /sup 7/Be) pickup reactions in /sup 91/Zr

The spectra of the pickup reactions (/sup 6/Li, /sup 7/Li) and (/sup 6/Li, /sup 7/Be) in /sup 91/Zr have been studied in the range of angles 12--20/sup 0/ in a beam of 93-MeV /sup 6/Li ions. In all measured spectra a gross structure is observed with maxima at E/sub x/approx.4.6, 6, 9.8, 13.7, and 20 MeV for the residual nucleus /sup 90/Zr and E/sub x/ = 0, 1.5, 5.5, 11.0 MeV for /sup 90/Y. These maxima can be identified with the formation of neutron and proton hole states in the shells 1f/sub 5//sub ///sub 2/, 2p/sub 3//sub ///sub 2/, 2p/sub 1//sub ///sub 2/, 1f/sub 7//sub ///sub 2/, and the (sd) shell. The experimental data are in good agreement with the results of studies of traditional pickup reactions in the same nucleus. A new feature is the fact that in the reactions (/sup 6/Li, /sup 7/Li) and (/sup 6/Li, /sup 7/Be) deeper hole excitations also appear appreciably.
