Field performance of solid-state hvdc valves

The field performances or failure occurrences of thyristor valves in four operating HVDC systems, i.e., the Eel River system between Quebec and New Brunswick, the underwater British Columbia tie from the mainland to Vancouver Island, the Stegall tie serving Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska, and the Square Butte tie between Minnesota and North Dakota, are summarized, and the design procedures necessary to produce a reliable installation are described.
