Tripod platform proposed for deepwater fields

Journal Article · · Offshore; (United States)
OSTI ID:5850741
A Deep Water Tripod (DWT) platform is described. The structure is designed for location in the Gulf of Mexico in 750-1500 ft water depths. The DWT concept will allow some deepwater sites to be developed using fixed platforms instead of exotic alternatives. The design has been developed to meet the range of well slots, payloads and other criteria anticipated for field developments in these depths. The structure uses less steel than a conventional jacket, takes advantage of high-capacity fabrication yards in Japan, and can be shipped by high-speed heavy-lift ocean carriers. Special features include pre-engineered designs that are optimized for specific user needs and tailored to match a consortium's facilities and equipment.
