Pilot-scale testing of fixed-film, fluidized-bed bioreactors for denitrification of process wastewaters

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5849242
Fluidized-bed bioreactors were tested as processes for denitrifying wastewaters at flows of 23 m/sup 3//d (0.2-m-diam column) and 166 m/sup 3//d (0.5-m-diam column). As average nitrate concentrations were increased from approximately 1000 to 2500 g/m/sup 3/, denitrification rates increased from 25 to 48 kg nitrate-nitrogen/d.m/sup 3/ for 11-min hydraulic retention times. Two 0.2-m-diam bioreactors operated in series on influent nitrate concentrations of 2000 g/m/sup 3/ could produce nitrate effluent concentrations of less than 44 g/m/sup 3/.
