Among the topics discussed are indium phosphide and gallium arsenide transferred electron devices; nonradiative dielectric waveguides; and a groove guide for short millimetric waveguide systems. Consideration is also given to: oversized cavities for millimeter-wave spectroscopy; powerful gyrotrons; and perspectives on the operating frequency increase in gyrotrons. Among additional topics discussed are: phase noise and AM noise measurements in the frequency domain; basic design considerations for FELs driven by electron beams from RF accelerators; and signal injection of an FEL. A flowchart for computation of FEL oscillator power build up is given in an appendix.
