Gasturbine exhaust noise reduction by control of the flow turbulence in the exhaust

The problem of low frequency noise between 31 and 250 Hz as the most unpredictable kind of noise of the exhaust of a gas turbine engine is discussed. Sound power measurement of a 90 MW gas turbine exhaust at different installations indicated different sound power especially in the low frequency range below 500 Hz. A structural model is proposed and discussed. (KRM)
