X-ray absorption spectra of ruthenium L edges in Ru(NH/sub 3/)/sub 6/Cl/sub 3/

X-ray absorption spectra of ruthenium L edges of (Ru(NH/sub 3/)/sub 6/)Cl/sub 3/ have been obtained with synchrotron radiation. It is found that Ru L edges exhibit white lines characteristic of ligand-field and spin-orbit effects. Analysis of the data on the basis of local symmetry and the electronic configuration of the complex yields a 10Dq value of 3.93 eV.
