An improved catalyst for the dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons to correspondingly more-unsaturated hydrocarbons is described. Small amounts of oxidic compounds of Al, Cd, Mg, Mn, Ni, U, and the rare earths are added to the Fe-K-V oxide catalysts normally used in the dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons. The improved catalyst results in a substantially improved yield of styrene from ethyl benzene and of butadiene from butylene.
