Solar energy meteorological research and training site, Alaska: First annual report

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5824694
This report summarizes activities for the period 1977/1978. These activities included: (1) carefully designed field measurements of the solar, sky and infrared radiation fluxes together with other meteorological parameters at a primary site in Fairbanks in the first year and, subsequently, at other sites using a mobile station; (2) establishment of a regional center in Fairbanks within the University of Alaska Atmospheric Sciences Program for training on meteorological measurements and data handling related to solar energy; (3) addition of past and current solar radiation data to existing meteorological/climatological data sets maintained at AEIDC as part of the federal/state climatological program; and (4) use of the radiation and other meteorological data to establish an empirical model to relate radiative fluxes to station location, amount and type of clouds, and other appropriate meteorological parameters.
