Influence of coke-oven width on the physico-chemical properties of the coke

The properties of coke made in PVR ovens of width 407 and 450 mm are compared in the lump length direction. The narrower ovens produce a more uniform coke with lower absolute values for the reactivity index and the specific electrical resistivity. Cokes made in ovens 407 and 450 mm wide, under otherwise comparable conditions, have different physico-chemical properties. A testing procedure has been devised to find the variation in properties between coke from different parts of the coke oven in the width direction. More uniform coke is produced as the oven width and the longitudinal taper are reduced.
