Multi-pattern low-tension demonstration flood, Big Muddy field. Technical progress report, January-March 1985

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5811802
The injection of the polymer-pusher slug continued through the first quarter of 1985. A power failure on February 9, 1985, caused a half-day plant shutdown, and the start-up of the plant on the next day resulted in a minor pump problem in the polymer-mixing stage. Approximately 1100 barrels of high-viscosity polymer slop had to be disposed of, but normal plant operations were quickly restored. A total of 1,393,200 barrels of polymer-pusher slug has been injected through March 31, 1985, which is approximately 80% of the planned slug size. Project injection was 629 BPD in March, down from 1136 BPD in December due to another intentional rate cut-back. This cut-back was also made to eliminate pressure-parting, and individual well injection rates were revised according to step-rate parting tests run in November. Oil production fell from 119 BOPD in December to 85 BOPD in March. Most of the decrease was due to an intentional production cut-back to match the injection cut-back, thus maintaining pattern balance. February production was low due to an estimated 780 barrels of bad oil in storage, which will be treated and sold in April. January production was high by 420 barrels of oil due to a LACT pump failure in late December. The March production of 85 BOPD was a reasonable measure of the actual oil rate for the project. Cumulative project production was 217,178 barrels of oil as of March 31, 1985 (sales only). Sulfonate was produced in all wells with Well 88 showing the highest level in the oil (1875 ppM). The production-weighted average remained at 350 ppM. The auxiliary treating facility, with the exception of one upset due to an attempt to remove a high iron-sulfide pad from the treater and FWKO's, continued to achieve merchantable oil. 6 figs., 4 tabs.
