Process for beneficiation of coal and associated apparatus

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5806846
This patent describes an apparatus for separating coal particles from mineral matter contained in coal feed material. It comprises means for mixing the coal feed material with an amine solution to create an aqueous slurry, a cell having an upper portion and a lower portion for receiving the aqueous slurry from the mixing means, means for connecting the mixing means with the cell, gas charging means for charging the lower portion of the cell with a gas containing carbon dioxide so as to create bubbles in the aqueous slurry, the bubbles carrying the coal particles from the lower portion to the upper portion of the cell and the carbon dioxide contained in the aqueous slurry to form a carbamate thereby causing the bubbles to reduce in size as they rise from the lower portion to the upper portion of the cell, means for removing the coal particles and associated carbamate from the upper portion of the cell, means for removing the mineral matter from the aqueous slurry with associated carbamate from the lower portion of the cell.
