Heat regenerator to recover both sensible and heat of condensation of flue gases

A heat regenerator for recovery of waste heat from fossil fuel flue gases is described comprising: (a) a bed of successive size graded layers of acid resistant aggregate for absorbing the sensible heat of the gases as the gases are passed therethrough; and (b) boiler feedwater pipes disposed within the bed for absorbing the heat of condensation of water vapor contained in the gases and thereby preheating boiler feedwater passing through the pipes.
