This article examines 30% concentrates of hydrocarbons, prepared as solutions in white mineral oil, in order to evaluate the influence of the structure of the aromatic hydrocarbon groups in the original raw material (DS-14 oil) on the yield and composition of the sulfonic acids. Proposes that in order to improve the functional properties of the commercial PMS additive (an overbased calcium sulfonate), a specially prepared raw material must be used, free of the heavy aromatic hydrocarbons that are the main source of formation of oil-insoluble and water-soluble sulfonic acids. Recommends that a better process technology be used in order to increase the content of oil-soluble sulfonic acids in the additive composition through a more nearly complete utilization of the light and heavy aromatic hydrocarbons of the original raw material.
