Region of homogeneity of lutetium dodecarboride

It is established that there is a region of homogeneity of lutecium dodecaboride, Lu/sub 0.97/B/sub 12.50/-LuB/sub 12/. Replacement of defects in the metallic sublattice is apparently due to the structural complexes B/sub 12/. It is shown that an adequate description of the low-temperature specific heat of LuB/sub 12/ is possible only on the basis of taking account of the phonon spectrum; the previously used simplified approach to the analysis of the low-temperature specific heats of rare-earth borides is incorrect.
