Factorization of Drell-Yan cross sections

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:5799384
An alternate parton density, more adequate for Drell-Yan processes, is used to compute the O(..cap alpha../sub s/) corrections to the cross section d sigma/dQ/sup 2/ for the hadronic production of lepton pairs. The author finds that the In/sup 2/n corrections to the nth moment of the cross section are absorbed into the density. A direct generalization of the leading-twist factorization theorems is shown to fail at order m/sup 4//S/sup 2/, in both Abelian and non-Abelian quantum field theories. The implications of this result for QCD perturbative calculations in hadron-hadron processes are discussed.
