Case study: Selecting personal computers for a small geological organization

Journal Article · · Geobyte; (United States)
OSTI ID:5790582
This personal computer hardware and software selection case history presents a rationale applicable to other geological organizations where timely, high-quality technical and aesthetically pleasing reports, and tight budget control are required. The implementation of personal computers has dramatically increased professional and support staff productivity and creativity, decreased costs, increased timeliness of publications, and facilitated project management. The hardware and software discussed in this paper are commercially available, low-cost, efficient, non-proprietary, and easily learned. Their adoption by other organizations can result in significant productivity and efficiency increases, and dramatically decreased costs.
