Measurement of the asymmetry of the cross section for photoproduction of. pi. /sup 0/ mesons for c. m. s. pion angles 40/sup 0/ and 50/sup 0/ in the resonance region

We report measurements of the asymmetry in photoproduction of ..pi../sup 0/ mesons in hydrogen at an energy E/sub ..gamma../=0.76--1.30 GeV for angles theta*/sub gammapi/ (c.m.) 40/sup 0/ and 50/sup 0/. Polarized photons were obtained in the Erevan electron accelerator by means of coherent bremsstrahlung of 4.6-GeV electrons in a diamond crystal. The experimental data obtained are compared with various theoretical predictions. The angular dependence for the three energies indicates satisfactory agreement with the results of the analysis of Feller et al. and also that of Aznaurian et al.
