Fire protection manual for hydrocarbon processing plants. Third edition

Book ·
OSTI ID:5784005

This latest edition preserves most of the material in the previous edition, but adds more than 150 pages of additional text. This new material includes a new chapter on equipment and systems and an appendix of papers presented at major loss-prevention meetings and symposia from 1973-1983. This information retrieval aid enables the reader to get a quick overview of major hydrocarbon processing fire protection literature, and where it may be obtained. Topics from 55 new authors are wide-ranging; for example, water as a fire-fighting agent is covered from a design perspective by one contributor, while another discusses problems with applying present standards, and still another evaluates the pros and cons of fixed systems. Other new topics include safety reviews and plant design, fire-safe valve criteria, plant security, foam systems, cost effectiveness and risk analysis, special hazards in new technologies, cryogenic plant safety LNG-facility spill protections, tank leak detection, and more. In addition, this latest edition contains a synopsis of 100 major HPI losses spanning the past three decades, and an economic loss assessment of incidents from 1978 to 1980.
