The history of fluorine air pollution in Florida is recounted. The onset of tip burn, excessive leaf drop, and chlorosis of foliage was correlated with the onset of superphosphate plants in the area of citrus groves. Experiments which confirmed that fluorine pollution was the culprit are described, as are the initial initiatives for air pollution regulations in Florida.
