Acid monophosphates of lanthanum, praseodymium, and neodymium

The powder x-ray diagrams of the RE acid monophosphates La/sub 4/H/sub 3/(PO/sub 4/)/sub 5/, Pr/sub 2/H/sub 3/(PO/sub 4/)/sub 3/ (0-1.5)-H/sub 2/O, and Nd/sub 2/H/sub 3/(PO/sub 4/)/sub 2/ (0-1.5)H/sub 2/O have been indexed on the basis of their isostructural nature with LnPO/sub 4/. A combined study of the thermal transformations of the acid phosphates by DAT, x-ray phase analysis, and paper chromatography showed that the thermal condensation of the anions takes place in an amorphous phase and is completed by the crystallization of LnPO/sub 4/ + Ln(PO/sub 4/)/sub 3/.
