Acid monophosphates of rare-earth elements
The acid monophosphates of rare-earth elements La/sub 4/H/sub 3/(PO/sub 4/)/sub 5/ (I), Ln/sub 2/H/sub 3/(PO/sub 4/)/sub 3/ x 1.5H/sub 2/O (Ln = Nd, Pr) (II), Ln(H/sub 2/PO/sub 4/)/sub 3/ (Ln = Sm-Gd) (III), and LnH/sub 3/(PO/sub 4/)/sub 2/ x H/sub 2/O (Ln = Dy-Lu) (IV) and their dehydration products have been studied by DTA, x-ray diffraction analysis, PMR, and polarography. The lattice constants have been presented; acid monophosphate I belongs to the monoclinic system, II and III belong to the hexagonal system, and IV belongs to the orthorhombic system. The structural relationships to the hydrates LnPO/sub 4/ x nH/sub 2/O and the character of the proton-containing groupings have been elucidated, and schemes of their thermal decomposition have been presented.
