Energy recovery from medium-size refuse incineration plants has been emphasized during recent years in Japan. As an example, this paper describes the Tokyo Metropolis Hikarigaoka Incineration Plant (300 t/d) which is equipped with a 4,000 kw electric power generator and district heating facilities utilizing the turbine exhaust steam.
