Preparation of cyclohexyldichlorophosphine by radiation-thermal reaction of phosphorus trichloride with cyclohexane
The author found that under the simultaneous action of /sup 60/Co ..gamma..-radiation and heating, the reaction in a mixture of cyclohexane and phosphorus trichloride at 150-180/sup 0/C has the character of a chain reaction. This is indicated by the radiation-chemical yields. For example, at 100/sup 0/C, a dose rate of 0.5 Gy/sec, and 6 h exposure, the radiation-chemical yield G/sub HCl/ and G/sub RPCl/sub 2// was 15 moles per 100 eV; at 150/sup 0/C, 40 molecules; at 170/sup 0/C, 100 molecules; and at 180/sup 0/C, 100 molecules per 100 eV. The product obtained after distillation of unreacted cyclohexane and phosphorus trichloride was analyzed by GLC. It was found that as a result of the reaction, cyclohexyldichlorophosphine (c-C/sub 6/H/sub 11/PCl/sub 2/) is preferentially formed; cyclohexyl chloride (c-C/sub 6/H/sub 11/Cl) is present in trace amounts, and dicyclohexylchlorophosphine ((c-C/sub 6/H/sub 11/)/sub 2/PCl) and dicyclohexyl (c-C/sub 6/H/sub 11/)/sub 2/ were not detected. The experimental data can be explained if it is assumed that during the reaction a phosphoranyl radical (c-C/sub 6/H/sub 11/PCl/sub 3/) is formed and dissociates.
