OPEC surplus. [Monograph]

Book ·
OSTI ID:5774429
The current OPEC surplus is examined to see what parallels exist with the surplus created in the early 1970s. New variables in the world economy indicate that changes in world oil production and consumption patterns may eventually lessen OPEC's market significance. The combination of non-OPEC oil exploration and production and moves by oil-importing nations to improve energy efficiency and to seek oil alternatives will lessen dependence on OPEC oil. A series of tables quantifies and projects OPEC revenues, highlighting some of the disparities between individual countries. The need to recycle OPEC surplus revenue in the world economy could disappear as early as 1984. 8 tables. (DCK)
