The Environmental Research, Development, and Demonstration Authorization Act of 1986 authorizes appropriations for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) activities for fiscal years 1987 and 1988. The bill establishes funding levels for activities under various environmental cleanup and protection acts, health studies, and research on acid rain, toxic substances, and other areas affecting health, safety, and the quality of life. A section on long-term research repeals earlier law and identifies certain areas for continuous research and development on biotechnology, groundwater, detoxification of hazardous materials, and other areas. Other research programs will focus on indoor air quality. A science advisory board will advise the committee on biotechnology and groundwater matter.
