OSTI ID:5767262
A catalyst is described prepared by the steps which comprise (a) forming a mixture of a hydrocarbon material and the reaction product of CrO/sub 3/ and tert-butyl alcohol, the reaction product having been obtained by reacting tert-butyl alcohol with CrO/sub 3/ at ambient temperature, and (b) heating the resulting mixture in the presence of a hydrogen sulfide-containing gas at conditions, including a temperature of at least about 500/sup 0/F. and a total pressure ranging from about 50 to 5000 psig, to produce a slurry comprising the hydrocarbon material and a solid chromium-containing catalyst.
