Patent ·
OSTI ID:5755528
A process is described for hydroconverting a carbonaceous chargestock to produce a hydroconverted, hydrocarbonaceous oil product which comprises: reacting the carbonaceous chargestock with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst at hydroconversion conditions, the catalyst having been prepared by the following steps: (a) forming a mixture of a hydrocarbon material and the reaction product of CrO/sub 3/ and tert-butyl alcohol, the reaction product having been obtained by reacting tert-butyl alcohol with CrO/sub 3/ at ambient temperature, and (b) heating the resulting mixture in the presence of a hydrogen sulfide-containing gas at conditions, including a temperature of at least about 500/sup 0/ F. and a total pressure ranging from about 50 to 5000 psig, to produce a slurry comprising the hydrocarbon material and a solid chromium-containing catalyst.
