Correlation between the partial cross sections in the reactions /sup 174/Yb(n, 2. gamma. )/sup 175/Yb and /sup 176/Yb(d, t)/sup 175/Yb

A statistically reliable correlation is found between the intensities of two-quantum cascades in the reaction /sup 174/Yb (n, 2..gamma..)/sup 175/Yb and the spectroscopic factors in the reaction /sup 176/Yb(d, t)/sup 175/Yb. The results obtained are an experimental evidence of the fact that the hole-quasiparticle components of the wave function of the excited states of /sup 175/Yb play a significant role in the ..gamma..-decay mechanism for this compound nucleus.
