An overview of the sources of tools and information available for demand-side planning, a major component of demand-side management (DSM), presents three levels of analysis: intuitive selection, aggregate analysis, and detailed evaluation. Intuitive selection is a quick way to identify the most appropriate areas for investigation, while aggregate analysis tools use additional data to identify alternatives that are cost-effective for the utility. Detailed evaluation generally uses either the Management Strategy Testing Model or several nonintegrated utility planning tools. The Electric Power Research Institute has prepared an Information Directory which catalogs nearly 1000 summaries of related studies and several cross-reference matrices which map the study summaries into various information categories. The Directory summarizes or lists over 100 utility contacts, 75 planning models, 160 metering studies, 100 utility surveys, and 1000 other sources. 2 figures, 2 tables.
