Species composition and distribution of marine nekton in the Pacific Ocean off Oregon. Final progress report, September 1, 1961-September 1, 1963

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5761608
Studies were made over a 2-year period of the distribution, ecology, and radioactivity of oceanic nekton and macroplankton in the Pacific Ocean off the Oregon coast. The role of fishes, squids, shrimps, euphausiids, and other swimming animals in the accumulation and biological transport of nuclides in ocean waters was investigated. The content of Zr/sup 95/-Nb/sup 95/, Zn/sup 65/, Cr/sup 51/, Ce/sup 141/, Ru/sup 103/, Co/sup 60/, K/sup 40/, Mn/sup 54/, Cs/sup 137/ in marine animals from various ocean depths and in relation to the Columbia River plume and seasons was determined. Sampling and analytical methods are described.
