The present work is a continuation of the series of studies concerned with the kinetics and mechanism of chlorine discharge and ionization at titanium-ruthenium oxide anodes and RuO/sub 2/. The authors study the kinetics and establish the mechanism of chlorine discharge and ionization at RuO/sub 2/ electrodes in weakly acidic chloride solutions of pH 2. Steady-state polarization curves (PC) are shown recorded at 87/sup 0/C in 5.13 M NaCl at the given chlorine pressures. Steady-state PC were also recorded at different solution concentrations of NaCl and low and high chlorine pressures in order to determine the anodic and cathodic reaction orders with respect to chloride. The behavior of the process was also studied at 20/sup 0/C, and the PC obtained under these conditions are also described.
