Cyclotron self-absorption in accretion columns of magnetic degenerate stars

Values for the maximum frequency up to which cyclotron radiation in the accretion columns of magnetic degenerate stars is self-absorbed are presented and the results applied to the Am Herculis binaries and Hercules X-1.
