A connector for interconnecting a downhole tool adapted to be disposed in a wellbore with an elongated tubing string is described. The tubing string includes an elongated signal transmitting cable extending therein for transmitting signals between the tool and the earth's surface. The connector comprises: an elongated body member connected at one end to the tubing string; means on the connector for anchoring a portion of the cable relative to the body member; and frangible coupling means operably connected to the body member and to the tool and responsive to an axial pulling force on the tubing string to separate the connector from the tool at a predetermined force exerted on the coupling means, the coupling means including separable members adapted to provide for extension of signal conductors of the cable through the frangible coupling means to the tool.
