From the example of the directionally crystallized eutectics of the oxide systems ZrO/sub 2/-MgAl/sub 2/O/sub 4/, ZrO/sub 2/-Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/, Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/-Y/sub 3/Al/sub 5/O/sub 12/, ZrO/sub 2/-Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/-Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ it is shown that there is promise in the use of methods of spectral probing and Raman spectra for determining the defect content of the cocrystallized phases, due to polymorphism of the individual compounds, the mutual influence of the crystalline lattices, and the growth conditions. It is shown that in principle it is possible to estimate the value of the integral concentration of inhomogeneities in directionally crystallized oxide eutectics by the method of small-angle neutron scattering.
