The current situation of nuclear power generation in Japan, the history of the development of nuclear power technologies, and characteristic features of nuclear power development in Japan from the point of view of management and its efforts are discussed in the paper. Plans are to continue to promote the establishment of a nuclear fuel cycle in Japan, to establish plutonium utilization technology and prepare conditions for commercial use of plutonium, and to develop technology for the commercialization of the fast breeder reactor, all for the purpose of improving technology and increasing the economic competitiveness of nuclear power as a total system.
