The question whether an {eta}{ital NN} quasi-bound state exists is theoretically investigated. One solves the three-body equation for the {pi}{ital NN} and {eta}{ital NN} coupled systems. The coupling occurs through the {ital S}{sub 11} resonance which connects with both the {pi}{ital N} and {eta}{ital N} channels. One finds a pole structure near {eta}{ital NN} threshold ({radical}{ital s}=2430 MeV) in the {ital I}=0, {ital J}{sup {ital P}}=1{sup {minus}} {eta}{ital d} scattering amplitude.
