Canada's Caproco Corrosion Prevention, Ltd., demonstrates the practical advantages of extreme-value statistical analysis in predicting, from limited inspection data, the maximum pit depth on a buried pipeline. The method derives attenuation data from extreme-value calculations that show the potentials on a line versus the distance, indicate the current demand, and establish the anode distances. Case histories illustrate the reduction in time and cost produced by this method of determining the condition of the pipeline.
