Members of NAPAP, representatives from US DOE, US DOI, US EPA, US NOAA, and environmental groups testified at a hearing on the management of the National Acid Precipitation Assessment Program. Since NAPAP was created in 1980, over a third of a billion dollars has been spent on studying acid rain. Yet, with only two years remaining in NAPAP's life, there are questions as to whether NAPAP is fulfilling its mission of providing an assessment of the acid rain problem. In Sept., 1987, NAPAP released its Interim Assessment. Attention is focused on the findings of this Interim Assessment as well as the plans for producing the final assessment due in 1990.
