This patent describes a method for protecting a drill pipe casing from damage by a rotatable string of drill pipe longitudinally extended therethrough, the drill pipe string including drill pipe sections, each drill pipe section having an internally threaded top end and having an externally threaded bottom end, the top end of a first the drill pipe section being threadably engaged with the bottom end of a second adjacent drill pipe section, the upper outside end and the lower outside end of each drill pipe section being beveled whereby an angular external groove is formed between longitudinally adjacent the first and second pipe sections when the drill pipe sections are threadably engaged.
