Oil and gas price forecasting

Conference · · AIChE Natl. Meet.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5716539
Forecasting crude prices in an era in which OPEC can act as a price stabilizer in certain ranges of world energy demand, but may lose control when oil demand falls outside that range, is a new exercise in complex forecasting. Similarly, a world in which gas prices in the United States will become market-competitive and, therefore, set by interfuel competition, particularly against a fuel whose price potentially can be volatile, is indeed another new complex exercise. It is not a world to give comfort to investors in complex energy megaprojects, and it may frequently be a world in which forecasters weep.
