Khuff competions help meet Mideast gas needs

Journal Article · · World Oil; (United States)
OSTI ID:5716082

With low oil demand depressing the availability of associated natural gas, Arabian Gulf countries are turning to the Khuff formation for nonassociated gas supplies to fuel their electricity and desalination plants. Exploited since 1969, the Permian Khuff has been an important element in the rapid industrial and commercial development of Bahrain. Now defined by 17 wells, the reservoir is an anticlinal trap occupying most of the southern two-thirds of Bahrain's main island. The original gas-in-place totaled about 23 trillion CF; cumulative production through 1982 has been 1.13 TCF. This study presents additional information on Khuff geology, well completion practices, reservoir analysis, and field development history.
